- Effect of some polyamino polycarboxylic acids on the corrosion of steel in sulfate solutions. Abd El Rehim, S. S.; Tohamy, F. M.; Seleet, M. M. (Fac. Sci., Ain Shams Univ., Cairo, Egypt). Surf. Technol., 21(2), 169-77 (English) 1984. CODEN: SUTED8. ISSN: 0376-4583. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 55 (Ferrous Metals and Alloys) The effect of the amino polycarboxylic acids, ethylene glycol bis(b-aminoethyl ether) tetraacetic acid [67-42-5], diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid [67-43-6], EDTA [60-00-4], and nitrilotriacetic acid [139-13-9] on the corrosion of steel in H2SO4 and in Na2SO4 solns. of various pH values was studied by using both wt. loss and open-circuit potential measurements. The org. substances behave bifunctionally. They inhibit corrosion presumably by adsorption in strong acidic media and promote corrosion above a certain pH. The inhibitor effectiveness is dependent on the mol. structure and concn. of the org. substance. The promotion is attributed to formation and desorption of sol.Except for chemicals metioned above, 60-00-4 and 67-42-5 are also used. complex ions. .

DOCUMENT TYPE: Report CA Section: 61 (Water) Section cross-reference(s): 80 A technique was developed for the quantitation of metal complexes in natural water samples. Using modified size-exclusion chromatog. and reversed-phase ion-pair chromatog., metal complexes were sepd. and detected using an electrochem. flow-cell detector. 7732-18-5 and 67-43-6 are just another two chemicals used in this study. Polyaminocarboxylic acids used in developing the technique were DTPA [67-43-6], EDTA [60-00-4], and NTA [139-13-9]. .
