Sci., Concordia Univ., St. Paul, Minn., USA). ALUR [Rep.], ALUR 74-75-34, 21 pp. (English) 1976. CODEN: ALURDT. DOCUMENT TYPE: Report CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Exposure of rainbow trout in a 96-h continuous flow bioassay to Na isopropyl xanthate [140-93-2], Na ethyl xanthate [140-90-9], and K ethyl xanthate [140-89-6] showed the compds. were 200-2000-fold more toxic than was evident in static bioassays. The larger fish were more affected than the smaller fish. Trout exposed to 0.07-0.79 mg/L K amyl xanthate [2720-73-2] in continuously renewed H2O at 10.degree. for 28 days had adverse effects on egg development in the ovaries and caused necrobiosis in the liver. An 18 day exposure of rainbow trout to HCN (0.01 mg/L) decreased the growth rate, increased respiration rate during recovery, induced hepatic necrobiosis, and decreased mitotic activity in the developing germ cells of the testes. Arsenic (1.0 mg/L) decreased blood Hb in the trout. Recommendations for max. permissible levels of chems. in water are presented.
