Bull., 26(1-2), 1-8 (English) 1984. CODEN: HINAAU. ISSN: 0018-1935. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) Hamycin [1403-71-0], like other polyene macrolides, showed significant hypocholesterolemic activity, reduced prostate wt. and size, and decreased serum testosterone [58-22-0] levels in rats. Prostate redn. with hamycin may not be strictly related to its hypocholesterolemic activity. The possibility of direct or indirect involvement of hypophyseal-gonadal axis in the effect of hamycin is suggested.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) Section cross-reference(s): 2 Hamycin (I) [1403-71-0] (25 mg/kg, orally for 4 wk) treatment in rabbits decreased prostatic wt. and fluid secretion. The decrease in prostate secretion was completely reversed by administration of testosterone propionate [57-85-2]. Addnl., serum testosterone [58-22-0] levels of chronically I-treated were markedly lower than controls. Decreased cholesterol [57-88-5] levels were also obsd. after 4 wk of I treatment.
