- Polypeptides for use in antibacterial therapy
- Polypeptides for use in antibacterial therapy. Vaara, Martti (Finland ). Brit. UK Pat. Appl. GB 2128617 A1 2 May 1984,9 pp. (English). (United Kingdom). CODEN: BAXXDU. CLASS: IC: C07C103-52; A61K037-02. APPLICATION: GB 82-28545 6 Oct 1982. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 63 (Pharmaceuticals) Peptides contg. diaminobutyric acid, leucine, isoleucine or phenylalanine and threonine residues are useful in sensitizing gram-neg. bacteria to antibacterial agents, complement or both. Thus, polymyxin B nonapeptide (I) [86408-36-8] was prepd. by the enzymic hydrolysis of polymyxin B sulfate [1405-20-5] with ficin and purified by CM-Sephadex C50 chromatog. The concn. of I required to sensitize the bacteria to antibiotics such as novobiocin [303-81-1], Na fusidate [751-94-0], etc., by a factor of 10-30 was 1-3 mg/mL.
