DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) Section cross-reference(s): 2 In the pithed rat prepn. captopril [62571-86-2], enalapril [75847-73-3], teprotide [35115-60-7], and saralasin [34273-10-4] given i.v., attenuated pressor responses to both spinal sympathetic nerve stimulation and exogenous noradrenaline [51-41-2], indicating that angiotensin [1407-47-2] has a potent adrenergic facilitating action. Bilateral nephrectomy abolished the effects of captopril on nerve stimulation but responses to noradrenaline were still inhibited following nephrectomy, indicating that part of the postjunctional actions of captopril might not be angiotensin dependent. Both phenylephrine and clonidine actions are also inhibited by captopril in pithed rats. It is thus not clear whether captopril is interacting with post-junctional a1- or a2-adrenoceptors. Vasoconstrictor responses to nerve stimulation are greater in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) Wistar Kyoto rats and captopril is more effective at inhibiting responses in the SHR than it is in WKY. These interactions between captopril and the sympathetic nervous system could explain the effectiveness of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors as antihypertensive agents. .

CODEN: CEHADM. ISSN: 0730-0077. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 2 (Mammalian Hormones) Renin [9015-94-5] has been identified in a variety of extrarenal tissues including uterus, brain, arterial wall, and adrenal glands. The effector peptide of the renin- angiotensin [1407-47-2] system, angiotensin II [11128-99-7], was obsd. in some of these tissues and persisted after nephrectomy indicating local formation. Some organs in which renin and angiotensin were found, e.g. arterial wall, adrenal gland, and brain, are closely linked to the control of blood pressure. Apparently, locally formed angiotensin may be involved in cardiovascular regulation as a tissue hormone or as a neuromodulator or neurotransmitter apart from its action as a circulating plasma hormone. .
