It exerts the least effect on the aq. medium chem. parameters. A change in pH is obsd. at a concn. of 10 mg/L, and of O at 5 mg/L, whereas a change in the BOD is obsd. at a concn. of 1 mg/l. A concn. .ltoreq.0.1 mg/L is admissible for the balance of the bacterial processes. The effect of I on aquatic organisms is decidedly neg. The limiting concn. for those organisms is: for bottom invertebrates (esp. resistant), 1.2 mg/L, daphnia 0.5 mg/L, algae 0.08 mg/L, trout roe 0.25 mg/L, fingerlings 0.09 mg/L. The concn. of 0.03 mg/L is considered as limiting in view of the development of fish internal organs.
