DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 23 (Aliphatic Compounds) The acetalization of aliph. aldehydes with MeOH or HOCH2CH2OH at a Pt or C anode is reported. Thus, a mixt. of Me(CH2)4C(:CH2)CHO and 4-MeC6H4SO3Na in MeOH was electrolyzed until 1.5 F/mol was delivered to give 85% Me(CH2)4C(:CH2)C(OMe)2. The prepn. of 6 other acetals by this method is reported. Yields were generally 383%. The process is electrocatalytic in character. .
