The impurities in com. collectors are not necessarily deleterious. The flotation of chalcocite with freshly synthesized I gave better results than com. I, with almost 100% recovery. The purified II is a much more effective collector for chalcocite than the com. II, but the soda ash in the com. product gives a desirable discrimination against pyrite. When III was used in flotation of chalcopyrite, chalcocite, bornite, and covellite, 5-11% impurities aided flotation, and the highly purified collector gave the poorest results. .
