DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 39 (Textiles) Low fuming, thermally stable, spin finishes for synthetic fibers contain lubricant 40-75, emulsifier 20-50, antistatic emulsifier 2-20, and stabilizer 0-2%. Thus, a typical compn. for the spin finishing of polyester fibers was prepd. using 87% water to provide an oil phase of 13% consisting of 60 parts pentaerythritol tetrapelargonate [14450-05-6], 30 parts polyoxyethyleneated castor oil, and 10 parts adduct of ethylene oxide and C12-15 alc., phosphated and neutralized with KOH. The compn. had a 14.2g wt. loss after heating 24 h at 210° and showed little swelling effect on polyurethane. When the finish was used in the texturing of polyester yarn on false twist texturing machines the yarn produced was within quality limits and no finish fuming was noted.

The equil. melting temp. of pure I of infinite mol. wt. (318.degree.) is much higher than reported exptl. values (265-70.degree.) for both pure I and I crystd. in the presence of a diluent.
