DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Chemistry of Synthetic High Polymers) The radical copolymn. of styrene [100-42-5] with Zn(II) [14643-87-9], Co(II) [58197-53-8], Ni(II) [60700-37-0], and Cu(II) acrylates (I) [20074-76-4] in MeOH at 60° was studied, as well as that of styrene with I in MeCN at 80°. In a given time period, an increase of conversion was obsd. with increasing concn. of the 1st three metal acrylates in mixts. with styrene; with I, however, a decrease in conversion was found. The monomer reactivity ratios were detd., and the products of the reactivity ratios, almost equal to 1, reflected an ideal copolymn. with little alternation. The Alfrey-Price Q-e parameters for the metal acrylates were calcd. and discussed.
