Peptides modulate growth and productivity of mammalian cell cultures and suppress apoptosis. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 16 (Fermentation and Bioindustrial Chemistry) The effects of various pure synthetic peptides on growth, viability, and prodn. of mouse hybridoma cultures were evaluated. Examn. of the action of a series of tri- and tetrapeptides (composed of glycine, alanine, serine, threonine, lysine, or phenylalanine) revealed that the common feature of the activity of these peptides is the suppression of apoptosis. Their effects on the viable cell d. and on the final product yield were diverse. In addn. to peptides that improved all culture parameters, one group promoted solely the growth of the culture, while other peptides suppressed growth and enhanced the product yield. 832732-89-5 and 14656-09-8 are just another two chemicals used in this study. A tripeptide formed by D-isomers and a peptide composed of beta amino acids were active in improving the culture parameters in a degree comparable to the effects of L-amino acid peptides. .
