(Sect. Chem., Tech. Univ. "Carl Schorlemmer" Leuna-Merseburg, Merseburg 4200, Ger. Dem. Rep.). Polym. Photochem., 4(3), 223-40 (English) 1984. CODEN: POPHDO. ISSN: 0144-2880. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Chemistry of Synthetic High Polymers) Potassium trisoxalatoferrate (I) [14883-34-2] initiated the radical photopolymn. of acrylamide only in combination with a coinitiator such as aryldiazonium, diaryliodonium, or triarylsulfonium salt which reacted with the formate radical formed in I photolysis and, depending on its redn. potential, also with Fe(II) species. In this electron transfer reaction, aryl radicals were formed which initiated polymn. The initiation efficiency increased in the order: triarylsulfonium salt << diaryliodonium salt < aryldiazonium salt. Quantum yields of polymer formation were linearly dependent on acrylamide concn. and the square root of the quantum yields of initiator decompn. The mol. wts. of the polymer decreased with increasing I concn. because an increasing proportion of the polymer radicals was oxidized by the initiator (k'ox = 2052 mol/ls). The efficiency of the initiator system could be compared with that of benzoin iso-Pr ether, but its sensitivity region extended up to 500 nm.

CLASS: IC: C08L067-00. APPLICATION: DE 76-2628964 28 Jun 1976. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 36 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Complex salts (11) of oxalic acid, such as K3[Al(C2O4)3] [26035-51-8], Na3[Al(C2O4)3] [56592-49-5], and K3[Fe(C2O4)3] [14883-34-2], were used as fireproofing agents for poly(ethylene terephthalate) (I) [25038-59-9] and similar polyesters. Thus, I contg. 10% K3[Al(C2O4)3] had limiting O index 27.1% in burning tests.
