New South Wales, Kensington 2033, Australia). Biochem. Pharmacol., 33(8), 1257-62 (English) 1984. CODEN: BCPCA6. ISSN: 0006-2952. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) Section cross-reference(s): 4 Cyanide [57-12-5] markedly increased the rate of uptake of Au by red blood cells when incubated with aurothiomalate [12244-57-4], a polymeric Au complex. The effect of cyanide was due to the conversion of aurothiomalate to the complex ion, aurocyanide [14950-87-9], which is rapidly taken up by red blood cells. At a low ratio (1:20) of cyanide to aurothiomalate, cyanide appeared to act as a shuttle to carry Au into red blood cells. Tobacco smoking is known to increase the concns. of Au in red blood cells in patients treated with aurothiomalate. The present data indicate that this effect of smoking is most likely due to cyanide inhaled in tobacco smoke and not to thiocyanate, a circulating metabolite of cyanide. An effect of cyanide on the uptake of polymeric Au complexes to target cells such as polymorphonuclear leukocytes and monocytes is suggested.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 60 (Sewage and Wastes) Section cross-reference(s): 72 The selectivity of several anion exchangers towards Au(CN)2- [14950-87-9] was investigated by the method of breakthrough curves. Varion AT 400 [9081-62-3], Varion ADA [63440-38-0], Amberlite IRA 400 [9002-24-8] and Aurion X [66419-10-1] were used for the recovery of Au from electroplating baths. Au was detd. in the eluate either colorimetrically with Rhodamine B or by at. absorption spectroscopy.
