DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 74 (Radiation Chemistry, Photochemistry, and Photographic and Other Reprographic Processes) Section cross-reference(s): 73 The field dependence of CIDNP effects in gas-phase biradical reactions was for the 1st time detected during the photolysis of the homol. series of cyclic aliph. ketones from cyclodecanone to cyclopentadecanone. The influence of magnetic field on nuclear polarization was studied up to 0.47 T. The exptl. data were interpreted on the basis of nuclear-spin-selective S-T- transitions in intermediate biradicals. In contrast to liq.-phase reactions, mainly protons in the g-position were polarized. The relatively weak a-CH2 and b-CH2 protons in the gas were explained by compensation of various conversion channels in biradicals. The strong spin-rotation interaction in gases excludes polarization transfer obsd. in solns. The field dependence of CIDNP effects differs noticeably in gases and liqs. It is assocd. with the different dynamics of conformational motion in liqs. and gases.Except for chemicals metioned above, 830-13-7 and 1502-06-3 are also used. .
