DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 63 (Pharmaceuticals) The percentage distribution (PD) of tertiary amine drugs [such as Cui Xing Ning (I) [80589-35-1], kemadrin [1508-76-5], atropine [51-55-8] and strychnine [57-24-9]] between aq. solns. of 6 inorg. and 8 org. acids and CHCl3 [67-66-3] was described. When the mol. wt. of the acid did not exceed that of the amine, the PD of amine depended mainly upon the mol. structure of the tertiary amine. For different acids, the order of arrangement of the PD of the amines was the same. For inorg.In this article, certain chemicals are used. Some of their cas registry numbers are 1508-76-5 and 64-19-7 acids, the order of the PD of the same amine in aq. solns. of different acids was: HClO4 3 HBr > HNO3 3 HCl > H2SO4 > H3PO4; monobasic acid > dibasic acid > tribasic acid, and the PD of tertiary amines in the monobasic acid solns. varied approx. with the mol. wt. of acid. In aq. solns. of org. acids, when extd. with CHCl3, the PD of the same tertiary amine increased with increasing no. of C atoms or lipophilic group of the acid, and decreased with increasing hydrophilic group of the acid. Only at a low concn. of acid, was the PD of tertiary amines related to the pKa of the acid. Differences of PD of tertiary amines in aq. soln. of acids were larger than that in neutral and alk. aq. soln. Thus, it could be used in sepn. of tertiary amines. Thus, even in strong inorg. acid solns. many tertiary amine salts can be extd. with CHCl3. .
