- Effects of relative humidity and free water on the phytotoxicity of hydrogen fluoride and cryolite. McCune, D. C.; Silberman, D. H.; Weinstein, L. H. (Boyce Thompson Inst. Plant Res., Yonkers, N. Y., USA). Proc. Int. Clean Air Congr., 4th, 116-19. Edited by: Kasuga, Susumu; Suzuki, Noboru; Yamada, T. Jap. Union Air Pollut. Prev. Assoc.: Tokyo, Japan. (English) 1977. CODEN: 37PQAB. DOCUMENT TYPE: Conference CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Mandarin orange (Citrus reticulata) exposed to £900 mg F (as cryolite [15096-52-3])/m3 h at 75% relative humidity showed no increase in foliar fluoride. Exposure to 7800 mgF/m3h at 85% relative humidity increased foliar fluoride 3 times while a mist increased foliar fluoride levels 5-fold over an equiv. dose at 85% relative humidity. Neither increasing relative humidity from 75 to 85% nor using a mist affected foliar fluoride after exposure to HF. Spinach accumulated fluoride similarly to mandarin oranges while rice behaved similarly in the presence of cryolite, and a mist increased foliar fluoride by 31% at a dose of 960 mg F/m3h (as HF) in rice. HF caused more injury in all species than cryolite, and relative humidity and mist affected the toxicity.
