- Effect of insecticides on the rice leaf beetle, Oulema oryzae Kuwayama, applied in a nursery box. Koyama, Shoichi; Emura, Kazuo; Kojima, Akio (Niigata Agric. Exp. Stn., Nagaoka 940, Japan). Nippon Noyaku Gakkaishi, 8(2), 183-91 (Japanese) 1983. CODEN: NNGADV. ISSN: 0385-1559. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) For the control of O. oryzae infesting rice plants by applying insecticide granules to nursery boxes (58 ′ 28.5 cm) before transplanting, 70, 50, and 50 g of 4% cartap (I) [15263-53-3], 5% propaphos (II) [7292-16-2], or 3% propoxur (III) [114-26-1] were required per box. These insecticides were absorbed by rice plants through the roots and translocated to leaves and sheaths. The LC50 value for I, II (including its SO and SO2 analogs), and III in rice plants toward overwintered O. oryzae adults were 0.8, 2, and 0.46 ppm, resp., and those toward 3rd-instar larvae were 0.1, 1, and 0.28 ppm, resp. Levels of these insecticides in rice plants were maintained above resp. levels for 30-40 days after application.

- Selective effect of insecticides for the control of apple golden leaf miner, Phyllonorycter ringoniella Matsumura. Yamada, Masateru; Kawashima, Kozo (Aomori Apple Exp. Stn., Kuroishi 036-03, Japan). Kitanippon Byogaichu Kenkyukaiho, (34), 55-8 (Japanese) 1983. CODEN: KNBKAY. ISSN: 0368-623X. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) Several insecticides were tested for their selective toxicities toward the apple golden leaf miner and its predators. Nicotine sulfate (I) [6505-86-8], Dimilin (II) [35367-38-5], and cartap (III) [15263-53-3] at 0.013, 0.006, and 0.005%, resp., gave good control of the miner. I and II had little or no effect on Holcothorax testaceipes, Coccinella septempuncata, and Stothorus japonicus, but III was toxic to C. septempunctata and S. japonicus.
