DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 25 (Benzene, Its Derivatives, and Condensed Benzenoid Compounds) The synthesis of functionalized carbomacrocycles, e.g., I, the diketone analog (II), and III, were reported. The diastereomeric diols I form a stable methanol clathrate. The x-ray anal. of II gave insight into the dimensions of the cavity. In the prepn. of III, side products IV (R = R1 = CHO; R = COMe, R1 = H) were characterized. Aldol condensations were used for the synthesis of a 30-membered ring and of its hydrogenation product. The diesters IV (R = R1 = CH:CHCO2Et, CH2CH2CO2Et, COCH2CH2CO2Me) were prepd. to make functionalized carbomacrocycles with high ring member nos. by acyloin condensation. 1530-45-6 is just another one chemical used in this study. The 28-membered tetrayne IV and its precursors were described. .
