Thus, an Al2O3-MgO powder mixt. at a mol ratio of 0..497 was prepd. as above, pressed at 2500 bar, and sintered at 1800° for 20 h to give a product which had 81% transmission at a wavelength of 0.6m and 86% at 5m.
