Lucknow, Lucknow, India). Makromol. Chem., 179(1), 41-6 (English) 1978. CODEN: MACEAK. ISSN: 0025-116X. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Synthetic High Polymers) Evaluation of the aq. polymn. of acrylamide (I) [79-06-1] using K2S2O8 and 2-mercaptoethylamine hydrochloride (II) [156-57-0] as a redox pair showed the rate of polymn. was proportional to [K2S2O8]1.5 in the range 0.8-1.2 mmol-1, to [I]1 in the range 0.8 - 1.2 ′ 10-1 mol L-1, and to [II]1 in the range 1.0-7.0 mmol L-1, resp. The overall activation energy was 9.8 kcal mol-1. Water-miscible alcs., e.g., MeOH [67-56-1] and EtOH [64-17-5] and salts, e.g. NaCl and NaF, depressed both the rate of polymn. and the max. conversion. With MnSO4.4H2O the reverse effect occurred.

- Chain transfer in radical polymerizations and end group content of resultant polymers. Ikada, Yoshito; Iwata, Hiroo; Nagaoka, Satoshi (Fac. Eng., Kyoto Univ., Kyoto, Japan). Macromolecules, 10(6), 1364-71 (English) 1977. CODEN: MAMOBX. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Synthetic High Polymers) The end-group content of polymers obtained by radical polymn. in the presence of chain-transfer agents was detd. by thin layer chromatog., and the results were compared with the theor. ones calcd. from the kinetic data. The investigated monomer-chain-transfer agent systems included styrene [100-42-5]-Cl3CCOCl [76-02-8] and methyl methacrylate [80-62-6]-HSCH2CH2NH2×HCl [156-57-0]. Azodiisobutyronitrile was used as the initiator. Good agreement was found between the exptl. detd. and calcd. content of the end-groups in the polymers.
