DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal; (computer optical disk) CA Section: 35 (Chemistry of Synthetic High Polymers) Allyl and Vinyl terminated poly(3-alkylthiophene)s (PAT)s were synthesized via a modified Grignard metathesis (GRIM) polymn. The resultant polymers can be used as building blocks for the synthesis of block copolymers using several approaches. The allyl polymer is easily coupled with living polystyryl lithium to yield PAT-PS diblock copolymers. The vinyl terminated polymer can be converted to an hydroxy terminated polymer which can be used for coupling with carboxylic acid terminated PEG creating PAT-PEG-PAT triblock copolymers. 1826-67-1 and 15629-92-2 are just another two chemicals used in this study. Alternatively the hydroxy terminated polymer can also been converted to a bromo-ester and used as a macroinitiator for ATRP, resulting in the synthesis of diblock copolymers. .
