The metabolites differed in stability and effectiveness. 2,2-Dimethyl-7-hydroxy-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran [1563-38-8] represented 1 type which was broken down in the I oxidn. reaction; thus the induced inhibition was limited by depletion of the inhibitor. 2,2-Dimethyl-3-keto-7-hydroxy-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran [17781-16-7] represented the other type which was stable in the reaction; thus the inhibition was persistent. With both types of inhibitors the inhibition was reversible by higher substrate concns., but the Lineweaver-Burk plot was curvilinear suggesting the complex nature of competitive inhibition. .
