Ab initio structure detns. using x-ray powder diffraction were carried out. The cis-Pd(NH3)2Cl2 [a = 6.3121(2), b 6.4984(2), c 3.3886(1) ?, a 96.604(4), b 97.290(4), g 104.691(2)°, Z = 1, space group P1] and trans-Pd(NH3)2Cl2 [a 6. 13782-33-7 and 15684-18-1 are cas registry numbers of chemicals which are used as reagents here.5398(3), b 6.8571(4), c 6.3573(3) ?, a 103.311(5), b 102.454(3), g 100.609(4)°, Z = 2, space group P1] phases have a typical layer-column structure, while b-trans-Pd(NH3)2Cl2 [a 8.1540(2), b 8.1482(2), c 7.7945(1) ?, Z = 4, space group Pbca] is described as a parquet-like layer structure. Both trans phases demonstrate the order-disorder phenomenon. The possible ways of phase transitions are discussed. The cis phase can transform into trans in the solid state without destroying the crystal body. Further transformation to b-trans follows through a break up of the crystal body. .

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 78 (Inorganic Chemicals and Reactions) The thermal decompn. of trans-[Pd(NH3)2Cl2] (I) was studied and the effect of I, cis-[Pd(NH3)2Cl2] (II), and [Pd(NH3)4]Cl2 (III) was studied on the rate of decompn. of cyanuric acid at <300°. The effect of I and II on initiating the decompn. is directly related to their thermal stability at the different temps. At 290° the less stable I has a greater effect whereas at 250° the less stable II has a greater effect. III also had an initiating effect on the decompn. of cyanuric acid; this is related to the decompn. of III to I. 13782-33-7 and 15684-18-1 which are cas registry numbers of substances are two of reagents here. In the decompn. of I, isomerization to II was obsd.; the final solid decompn. product consisted of Pd, PdCl2 and PdO. .
