DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 37 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) A new method for the prepn. of poly(Me methacrylate)/Ce(OH)3-Pr2O3/graphite nanosheets ternary phase nanocomposites is developed. Graphite nanosheets (NanoG) are prepd. by treating the expanded graphite with sonication in aq. alc. soln. The new ternary phase nanocomposites are prepd. via in situ polymn. of MMA monomer in the presence of graphite nanosheets and Ce(OH)3-Pr2O3 through reverse micelle template, in which the Me methacrylate (MMA) is designated as oil phase. The nanocomposites are then dispersed in chloroform and coated on glass slides to form films. SEM and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) are used to characterize the structure and nanoscale dispersion of the graphite nanosheets and the nanocomposites. From the thermogravimetric anal., the introduction of graphite nanosheets and inorg. nanoparticles exhibit a beneficial effect on the thermal stability of PMMA. .
