Sci. Technol., Nihon Univ., Japan). Bunseki Kagaku, 33(1), 1-5 (Japanese) 1984. CODEN: BNSKAK. ISSN: 0525-1931. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 61 (Water) Section cross-reference(s): 79 The catalytic effect of F- on the complex-forming reaction between Zr(IV) and Xylenol Orange (I) [1611-35-4] was applied to the detn. Some commonly used reagents like 16984-48-8 and 7732-18-5 are used in this experiment. of F- traces in water samples. By replacing the slightly hydrolyzed Zr oxychloride previously reported (A. Sakuragawa et al., (1983) with ZrO2, both the sensitivity of the method and stability of the reagent were improved. To a sample soln. contg. 10 mg of F-, 1 mL of 3M HNO3, 1 mL of 5 ′ 10-4M I, and 1 mL of 5 ′ 10-3M cetyltrimethylammonium chloride was added 1 mL of soln. contg. 5 ′ 10-4M Zr(IV), 0.2M H2O2, and 0.3M HNO3. The soln. was made up to 25 mL and was kept at 25° for 60 min. The absorbance was measured at 605 nm. F- in the range of 1-10 mg could be detd. SO42-, PO43-, Al, and Fe3+ interfere with the detn. This method was applied to the detn. of F- in water samples after microdiffusion sepn. of F- using hexa-Me siloxane. .

Steklo Keram., (2), 28 (Russian) 1984. CODEN: STKRAQ. ISSN: 0039-1115. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 57 (Ceramics) The photometric detn. of Ce, Pr, and Nd in glasses is based on the formation of colored complexes with Xylenol Orange [1611-35-4] in an aq. soln. and measuring the optical d. at 582 nm using an AcOH-NH4OH buffer (pH 6). The interference of Ti, Al, and Fe(III) was eliminated with a 10% soln. of sulfosalicylic acid. Beer's law was obeyed at 10-85 mg rare earth element/25 mL soln.Except for chemicals metioned above, 7440-45-1 and 7440-10-0 are also used. .
