Blocking of the Lewis basic functional groups of I with a Lewis acid (EtAlCl2, AlCl3), however, increased the effectiveness of the catalysts used. Metathesis reactions of Zn(oleate)2 and Al(O-allyl)3 by both catalytic systems, without excess Lewis acid cocatalysts, demonstrate that coordination of the functional groups to the appropriate metal ions completely eliminated the poisoning effect of these groups. .

NCL: 426650000. APPLICATION: US 2002-202958 25 Jul 2002. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 17 (Food and Feed Chemistry) Packaging materials and packages that transfer fragrances to foods and other products via the vapor phase are disclosed. The present invention provides a source of desired fragrance, a suitable environment for vapor transfer, and an appropriate food substrate to which flavor and fragrance is added. Examples of the source of fragrance can be a packaging film contg. fragrance, a sachet of absorbed flavor material, and a flavor diffusing granule or an active system for delivering flavor vapor to the environment. Materials that are preferably treated using the present invention include snacks, confections, baked goods, fresh plant materials, cereals and beverages, as well as non-food products. The time required for flavor transfer is dependent primarily on the volatility and concn. of the fragrances, absorptive capacity of the food, and the intensity of the flavor desired. Thus, packaging film layers for flavoring tortilla chips comprise sheets of POLYIFF film with either roast beef flavor or butter flavor to line the inner compartment of a foil pouch. Unflavored tortilla chips are placed between the sheets of film and the pouch is heat-sealed. .
