Evaluation of explosiveness parameters of gas-air mixtures containing vapors of hydrocarbon condensates
Evaluation of explosiveness parameters of gas-air mixtures containing vapors of hydrocarbon condensates. Perel'tsvaig, M. O. (Vses. Inst. Prir. Gaza, Moscow, USSR). Gazov. Prom-st., (2), 51-2 (Russian) 1977. CODEN: GZVPAJ. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 50 (Propellants and Explosives) A high level of vaporization of condensates resulted from the presence of light hydrocarbons during condensate run-off by very quickly producing mixts. of vapors with air over the surface. The max. danger of explosion developed at the time when the vapor condensate concn. in air was between the low (.phi.N) and upper limits of explosiveness. The hydrocarbon mol. wt. (Mi), .phi.N, and Mi.phi.N are given for C1-16 alkanes, C6H6 [71-43-2], PhMe [108-88-3], xylene [1330-20-7], styrene [100-42-5], cyclopropane [75-19-4], cyclohexane [110-82-7], ethylcyclobutane [4806-61-5], ethylcyclopentane [1640-89-7], ethylcyclohexane [1678-91-7], methylcyclohexane [108-87-2], propylene [115-07-1], and butylene [25167-67-3]. From .phi.N = A/Mi, it is found that A, the stability coeff., is acceptable at 101.5 for hydrocarbons.

Methylcyclohexane Ring-Contraction: A Sensitive Solid Acidity and Shape Selectivity Probe Reaction. McVicker, Gary B.; Feeley, Owen C.; Ziemiak, John J.; Vaughan, David E. W.; Strohmaier, Karl C.; Kliewer, Wayne R.; Leta, Daniel P. ( Corporate Strategic Research Laboratories, ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company, Annandale, NJ 08801, USA). Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 109(6), 2222-2226 (English) 2005 American Chemical Society. CODEN: JPCBFK. ISSN: 1520-6106. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 22 (Physical Organic Chemistry) Section cross-reference(s): 66 In this paper we describe the utility of an acid-catalyzed isomerization reaction, specifically, ring-contraction of methylcyclohexane to an isomeric mixt. of alkylcyclopentanes as a tool for characterizing the acidic properties of a wide range of platinum-loaded solid acids. Methylcyclohexane isomerization is particularly useful as a solid acidity probe reaction since it is a simple mol. contg. one six-membered ring and a single Me group substituent. As a solid acidity probe mol. methylcyclohexane has a no. 1638-26-2 and 1640-89-7 which are cas registry numbers of chemicals are mentioned. of advantages over cyclohexane. Ring-contraction of cyclohexane produces a single product, methlycyclopentane. Methylcyclohexane ring-contraction, in contrast, yields a richer and thus more informative product mixt. including ethylcyclopentane, and five isomeric dimethylcyclopentanes. For the first time it will be shown that variations in the three primary descriptors of solid acids, acid site d., acid site strength, and shape selectivity, within a wide range of amorphous and cryst. solid acids can be simultaneously ranked using a single component probe reaction, namely, methylcyclohexane ring-contraction. .
