Acid Red 88 [1658-56-6], of treatment of nylon 6 with 7 formaldehyde-phenol copolymer [9003-35-4] samples (mol. wt. 500-850) their sulfonated derivs., and 5 unsulfonated and 1 sulfonated Novolak model compd. were examd. Sulfonation of the resins gave increased restraining effects towards the dyes; these effects were attributed to a redn. in the no. of pos. charged sites on the nylon mols. The sulfonate restraining effects did not increase steadily with increasing mol. wt. and the most efficient syntan contained 5-10 condensed sulfonated PhOH mols. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Synthetic High Polymers) 1-Ferrocenylethyl methacrylate-styrene copolymer [67228-49-3] and 1-ferrocenylethyl methacrylate-Me methacrylate copolymer [67228-50-6] were prepd. and their photosensitization of the redox reaction between L-ascorbic acid [50-81-7] and Fast Red A [1658-56-6] were studied in DMF. With both copolymers the higher the 1-ferrocenylethyl methacrylate (I) content, the lower the relative quantum yield of the sensitization. The obsd. decrease in the relative quantum yield was interpreted in terms of Perrin's model of static quenching interaction between excited and near-by ground-state ferrocene units. The mean sequence length of I in the polymer was an appropriate parameter for the local ferrocene concn. with respect to the polymer. Both energy migration and quenching interaction were thought to occur among nearest-neighbor ferrocene units along the polymer chain, with quenching interaction prevailing over energy migration.
