The oil sample (~5 g) was ashed, mixed with 10 mL 50% HCl, heated, remixed with 30 mL water, boiled, and filtered. Then the filtrate 0.5-2 was mixed with H2O2 2, aq. I 5, EtOH soln. of II 2, a buffer soln. 2 mL, and appropriate amt. of tap water to give a mixed soln. for the anal. For samples contg. 74-1224 ppm Fe, the detn. error was <10%.
