DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) The nitrofurans, furagin [1672-88-4], furazoline [139-91-3], furazolidone [67-45-8], furadonine [67-20-9], and furacilin [59-87-0], at 5 mg/kg given orally once or daily for 5 days to calves and pigs did not affect secretory or motor function of the stomach. However, at 10 mg/kg once or daily for 5 days in calves decreased total acidity, free HCl, and digestive strength and increased total and neutral Cl in gastric juice. In pigs, this higher dose increased total acidity, free HCl, digestive strength, and Cl- in gastric juice.
