DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 55 (Ferrous Metals and Alloys) The inhibitors contain (1) Al compd(s). selected from Al(NO3)3, AlCl3, Al2(SO4)3, double salts and polynuclear complex salts, and (2) compd(s). selected from triazole and thiazole derivs. The triazole derivs. are preferably 3-amino-1H-1,2,4-triazole [61-82-5], 4-phenyl-1,2,3-triazole [1680-44-0], benzotriazole [95-14-7], 5-methyl-1H-benzotriazole [136-85-6], anisotriazole [27799-91-3], 2-naphthotriazole, and 4-nitrobenzotriazole [6299-39-4]. The thiazole derivs. are preferably thiazole [288-47-1], benzothiazole [95-16-9], 2-mercaptobenzothiazole [149-30-4], and 2-mercaptotolylthiazole [95719-20-3]. The inhibitors are useful for heat exchangers contg. Cu or Fe alloys and using water or seawater. Thus, an SS41 [12732-02-4] steel and an Al brass [11108-63-7] tube were immersed in an aq. NaCl soln. at 30° contg. Cl- 200, benzotriazole 5, and AlCl3 5 ppm for 30 days, and had significantly decreased corrosion.
