The electronic phase transitions in iron(2+) sulfide and nickel(2+) sulfide
The electronic phase transitions in iron(2+) sulfide and nickel(2+) sulfide. Coey, J. M. D.; Roux-Buisson, H.; Brusetti, R. (Groupe Transitions Phases, CNRS, Grenoble, Fr.). J. Phys. (Paris), Colloq., (4), 1-10 (English) 1976. CODEN: JPQCAK. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 65 (General Physical Chemistry) Section cross-reference(s): 69, 68, 67 FeS and NiS show 1st order phase transitions with a change in electronic structure at T.alpha. = 415 K and Tt = 265 K, resp., the latter depending sensitively on non-stoichiometry in the form of Ni vacancies. Extensive exptl. data on NiS is reviewed which shows that the low-temp. phase is a semimetallic itinerant-electron antiferromagnet and the high temp. phase a weakly-correlated Pauli paramagnetic metal. Less complete data on FeS suggests the low temp. phase is a degenerate antiferromagnetic semiconductor and the high-temp. phase an antiferromagnetic poor metal where the iron retains its local moment. In both compds. the increase in lattice entropy is an important contribution to the increase in entropy on heating through the transitions. In NiS, the electronic contribution provides approx. 1/4 of the total entropy of transition due to the 8-fold increase in d. of states at the Fermi level at Tt whereas in FeS, there is a large magnetic contribution due to weakening of the exchange at T.alpha. 16812-54-7 and 1317-37-9 which are cas registry numbers of chemicals are mentioned.. Ni0.95S is a weakly-correlated paramagnetic metal at all temps. and Fe impurities show Kondo-like behavior at a concn. below 1%, and dil. antiferromagnetic or spin-glass-like order at higher concns. A preliminary T:x:.delta. phase diagram for the system (Ni1-xFex)1-.delta.S shows 3 distinct regions: antiferromagnetic order of both Ni and Fe; paramagnetic Ni and Fe, Ni being a Pauli paramagnetic and Fe a Curie-Weiss paramagnetic or Kondo-like; Fe magnetically ordered while Ni remains Pauli paramagnetic. .
Deposition of nickel chalcogenide thin films by solution growth techniques
Deposition of nickel chalcogenide thin films by solution growth techniques. Pramanik, P.; Biswas, S. (Dep. Chem., Indian Inst. Technol., Kharagpur 721 302, India). J. Solid State Chem., 65(1), 145-7 (English) 1986. CODEN: JSSCBI. ISSN: 0022-4596. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 75 (Crystallography and Liquid Crystals) Section cross-reference(s): 76 NiS films were deposited from a basic soln. contg. NiSO4, triethanolamine, and thioacetamide and NiSe films from a basic soln. contg. 1314-05-2 and 16812-54-7 are also in the experiment. NiSO4, triethanolamine and Na2SeSO3. Both films are polycryst. and p-type. The optical band gaps are 0.35 and 0.23 eV for NiS and NiSe, resp. The conductivities are in the order of 10-1 S cm-1 for NiS and 10+1 S cm-1 for NiSe films. .
