DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Pantethine [16816-67-4] (3.1 mg/kg) was administered orally 1 h prior to and 1 h after oral administration of EtOH [64-17-5] to healthy human subjects to investigate blood levels of EtOH and AcH [75-07-0]. Pantethine lowered the blood content of AcH but had no effect on the blood content of EtOH compared to controls. The mechanism of action of pantethine is discussed.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) Administration of pantethine [16816-67-4], a new drug affecting lipid metab., to rats with carbohydrate-induced hyperlipidemia, raised postheparin lipolytic activities; this change was due to an increase in lipoprotein lipase [9004-02-8] activity. Hepatic lipase [9001-62-1] activity remained virtually unchanged after drug treatment. Total lipoprotein lipase activity per g of adipose tissue increased in pantethine-treated rats compared with controls. Sol. lipoprotein lipase of fat pads was fractionated by heparin-Sepharose affinity chromatog.; the 1st active peak, originating from the microsomal fractions, increased after the drug treatment, whereas the 2nd one, originating from the plasma membranes, remained unchanged. The increase in the microsomal lipoprotein lipase activity may be due to an increase in intracellular synthesis of lipoprotein lipase enzyme proteins.
