DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) Arginine ketoglutarate [16856-18-1] (3 g 3 times in 1 day) given orally to patients with liver cirrhosis on a high protein diet decreased plasma ammonia and free serum phenols. The decrease in ammonia was owing to increased urea synthesis, whereas the decrease in serum phenols was owing to their improved oxidative decompn. No stimulation of insulin secretion was obsd.
