DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 43 (Cellulose, Lignin, Paper, and Other Wood Products) Particulate cork was mixed with resins and fireproofing agents consisting of ureidoguanidinium phosphate [56683-45-5] and guanidinium chloride [14317-32-9] mixed with zinc fluoroborate (I) [13826-88-5] and ammonium halides mixed with I, zinc fluosilicate [16871-71-9], or ammonium pentaborate [12007-89-5] to give fire-resistant composites. Thus, 16 kg of ground cork, particle size 0.5-2.5 cm was mixed with a soln. of 6 kg NH4Br and 2.35 kg 50% aq. I in 6 l. H2O. The mixt. was homogenized 15 min and the granules dried to 8% humidity before 1.78 kg phenolic resin in 0.5 kg H2O was added. The compn. was molded 8 hr at 80.degree. to give a fire-resistant composite.Except for chemicals metioned above, 14317-32-9 and 12007-89-5 are also used. .

The crystal field parameter D varied from (-0.1325 .+-. 0.0010) cm-1 at 4.2 K to (-0.64 .+-. 0.01) cm-1 at 302 K. The magnitude of .vdelta.D/.vdelta.T had a max. of (0.0027 .+-. 0.0001) cm-1/K, decreasing to about 0.0015 cm-1/K at room temp. The spin-lattice relaxation rate varied as T2 from linewidth measurements between 77 and 325 K. From the expression for the Raman process in the high temp. limit, the Debye temp. was of the order of 100 K. .
