The II was removed and the dried product was admixed with 4 g (NH4)2SiF6 [16919-19-0] and heated to produce an activated catalyst contg. 0.20% Cr, 3.74% Ti, and 0.15% F. Then 1.1 mol Et3Al [97-93-8] and 34 kg silica were dispersed for 1 h in a fluidized bed reactor charged with low-d. 1-butene (III)-I copolymer particles. The system was vented to reduce the pressure to 550 kPa, and then repressurized to 2100 kPa with I, III, and H. When the above Cr catalyst was introduced at 0.25 kg/h, polymn. began smoothly within 0.5 h. Polymer [25087-34-7] prodn. reached a rate of 6500 and 12,000 kg/h after 6 and 10 h, resp. No hot-spotting or reactor fouling occurred and the desired polymer properties were obtained within 3 bed turnovers following start-up.
