APPLICATION: JP 76-10655 2 Feb 1976. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 55 (Ferrous Metals and Alloys) An Fe alloy contg. >0.3% C is heated in a mixt. of TiH2 2-10, K2TiF6 [16919-27-0] 2-7, SiC and/or Al2O3 10-25%, and alkali metal chloride balance at 900-1000° for 1-5 h. Thus, SK3 [12714-78-2] or SKD1 [12741-70-7] was heated in a mixt. of powd. TiH2 4.61, K2TiF6 4.64, SiC 21.6, NaCl 42.1, and KCl 27% at 950° for 3 h to coat with TiC to an av. thickness 34 or 25 m of Vickers hardness 1413-790 or 1800-2200 kg/mm2 resp. The Vickers hardness was lower than for the usual gas-phase process but had higher adhesion.

APPLICATION: AU 75-79302 10 Apr 1974. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 56 (Nonferrous Metals and Alloys) A method of treating a Cu-based alloy is described which consists of melting the alloys and inoculating the molten alloy with a compn. of B and Ti. The treated alloy demonstrates an increase in ultimate tensile strength, proof stress, elongation, compressive strength, hardness and fatigue resistance. The inoculant may be an alloy, such as Cu-B 5 or Cu-Ti 5. Preferably the inoculant incorporates KBF4 [14075-53-7] and K2TiF6 [16919-27-0], along with C2Cl6 [67-72-1] which can perform a useful scavenging function. The preferred B content is .ltoreq.0.2% while Ti is .ltoreq.0.3%.
