HF decomposes the Ca(OH)2 and Ca hydrosilicates with the formation of CaF2, CaSiF6 [16925-39-6], and Na2SiF6 [16893-85-9]. The formation of CaF2 is assocd. with a decrease and formation of CaSiF6 and Na2SiF6 assocd. with an increase in the vol. of the concrete. Both vol. increase and decrease result in formation of internal stresses, cracking, and rupture of the concrete. .
