Sch., London, Engl.). Br. J. Obstet. Gynaecol., 84(12), 887-93 (English) 1977. CODEN: BJOGAS. ISSN: 0306-5456. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) Section cross-reference(s): 14 Talampicillin [47747-56-8], cephalexin [15686-71-2], and clindamycin [18323-44-9] were administered orally, and ampicillin [69-53-4], cephazolin [25953-19-9], clindamycin and spectinomycin [1695-77-8] i.m. as preoperative medication to women who were having an abdominal hysterectomy. Antibiotic levels in serum, myometrium or cervix, and fallopian tube were estd. Antibiotic absorption from the gastrointestinal tract was delayed, but i.m. therapy produced serum levels compatible with those reported in ambulant volunteers. None of the antibiotics produced a concn. which inhibited all the potential pathogens causing pelvic inflammatory disease. Inhibitory concns. were produced by cephazolin except against bacteroides; by clindamycin except against enterobacteria; by ampicillin except against bacteroides and enterobacteria; and by spectinomycin except against resistant strains of streptococci. The need for a reassessment of dose regimens and route of administration as well as the possible need for using 2 antibiotics together for the treatment of pelvic inflammatory disease is suggested.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 3 (Biochemical Interactions) All of 105 strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae were sensitive to spectinomycine (I) [1695-77-8] £10 mg/mL in vitro. No difference in I sensitivity was obsd. between strains sensitive and insensitive to penicillin [61-33-6].
