DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 36 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) The title compn., having a low and stable friction coeff. at .ltoreq.350.degree., contained polyphenylquinoxalines (I), fillers, and .gtoreq.1 modifying additive, such as terephthalaldehyde [623-27-8], pyromellitic acid tetranitrile [712-74-3], metal polyphosphinates {M[OP(R)(R1)O]n}x (M = di- or trivalent metal; R and R1 = alkyl, cycloalkyl, or aryl), and compds. contg. m- or o-carborane groups [e.g., o-carborane [16872-09-6], m-carborane [16986-24-6], phenyl-o-carborane [16390-61-7], and carborane-contg. acids, diols, or oligomers or polymers]. Thus, a compn. for prodn. of an antifriction material consisted of I 5-98, filler 1-94, and a modifying additive 0.1-10 wt. parts.
Toxicity of some metacarboranes used for the synthesis of some heat-resistant polymers
Toxicity of some metacarboranes used for the synthesis of some heat-resistant polymers. Denisenko, P. P.; Lebedeva, D. P.; Gridina, V. F.; Zavgorodnyaya, T. I. (Sanit.-Gig. Med. Inst., Leningrad, USSR). Gig. Tr. Prof. Zabol., (1), 42-3 (Russian) 1978. CODEN: GTPZAB. ISSN: 0016-9919. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) When administered once by inhalation, orally, s.c., or topically to the skin and eyes, metacarborane [16986-24-6] and its 1,7-bis(chlorodimethylsilyl) [16996-48-8] and 1,7-bis(methoxydimethylsilyl) [17631-41-3] derivs. irritated the respiratory tract and eyes of rats, mice, and rabbits. Threshold doses did not cause pathol. changes in the organs. The 2nd compd. was the most toxic and the 3rd the least. Max. permissible limits recommended for the air of industrial sites are 1 mg/m3 for the chloro deriv. and 2.5 mg/m3 for metacarborane and its methoxy deriv.
