Ecdysterone [5289-74-7], inokosterone [15130-85-5], makisterone [12774-34-4], ponasterone-A [13408-56-5], and an ext. from the fern Pteris cretica, at 10-30 .mu.g/pupa induced metamorphosis within 8-12 weeks. Topical application of the phytohormones induced emergence of adults within 12-15 weeks. .
