The treatment of these resins with an organolithium in THF at -78.degree. and then an acid chloride gave, after warming, ketones with regeneration of polymer-bound I. E.g., PhCOMe was prepd. in 60% yield by sequential addn. of PhLi and AlCl in THF to polymer-bound I in benzene-ether at -78.degree. followed by warming to room temp. Similarly prepd. were .apprx.10 other ketones having a variety of functional groups. .
