Thus, a single-phase liq. was prepd. by heating a stirred mixt. of cholesteryl nonanoate [1182-66-7] 52, cholesteryl oleyl carbonate [17110-51-9] 32, cholesteryl benzoate [604-32-0] 7, and dicholesteryl carbonate [29331-39-3] 9% at 60.degree. for 1 min. A mixt. of dyes composed of C.I. Solvent Violet 13 [81-48-1] 0.1, C.I. Solvent Yellow 33 [8003-22-3] 0.05, and C.I. Solvent Red 23 [85-86-9] 0.05 g was dissolved in the above molten liq. crystal at 60.degree.. This compn. (0.3-0.5 g) was applied onto a cleansed and cooled (25-8.degree.) skin area for vein location. The warmest temps., corresponding to vein locations, were indicated by the 1st appearance of red color, and thereafter, by the color of the shortest wavelength of the dye employed. The compn. is useful for evaluation of peripheral vascular conditions as well as inflammatory conditions of the body.

The films are protected and stabilized against aging and atm. by adding antioxidants to the film-forming emulsions. Thus, cholesteryl nonanoate [1182-66-7] 37.25, cholesteryl oleyl carbonate [17110-51-9] 12.75, cholesteryl chloride [910-31-6] 10.0, BHT [128-37-0] 0.50, and color 0.66 wt. parts were mixed together, heated to .apprx.120-5.degree. till a clear soln. was formed, and 60.66 wt. parts of this compn. were mixed with 400 wt. parts of a gelatin soln. (prepd. by mixing gelatin with sorbic acid and heating to 70-75.degree.) and homogenized. The resulting emulsion could be cast into a film.
