The peroxide compn. is resistant to deposition of solids and to phase sepn. during cooling below -5°, has good handling properties and storage stability, and is useful as a curing agent for unsatd. polyester resins, etc. Thus, 480 g 10% NaOH soln. was mixed with 40.8 g 50% aq. H2O2 and 100 g xylene, treated slowly at 25° with a mixt. of 0.2 mol BzCl and 0.8 mol m-toluoyl chloride, and stirred 1 h. The org. phase was sepd., washed with water, and dried with 20 g MgSO4 to give 210.2 g soln. contg. 56.6% 5: Bz2O2-I-II mixt. During 6 mo of storage in a sealed container, the mixt. retained 100, 94, and 77% of its active O, resp., when the storage temp. was -5, +5, and +15°, resp. The catalytic activity of the soln. was similar to that of a Bz2O2-dioctyl phthalate mixt. in the curing of an unsatd. polyester resin.
