DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 2 (Hormone Pharmacology) Section cross-reference(s): 1, 14 Intragluteal administration of TSH [9002-71-5] (2 IU/day for 3 days) increased the content of hyaluronic acid [9004-61-9] and chondroitin sulfate [9007-28-7] in the ocular retrobulbar tissue. This increase was inhibited by subsequent local (retrobulbar) injection of 0.15 mg L-thyroxine (I) [51-48-9] or D-triiodothyronine [5714-08-9]. With local injection of L-triiodothyronine [6893-02-3] the concns. of hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate increased (after a transitory decline), as did the concn. of heparin [9005-49-6]. Retrobulbar concns. of heparin were not affected by the TSH treatment but were increased by D-thyroxine [51-49-0], I, and the 2 triiodothyronine isomers. The rise in retrobulbar acid mucopolysaccharides caused by TSH was reversed to a decrease of prednisolone 21-Na succinate [1715-33-9], hyaluronidase [9001-54-1], Trasylol [9004-04-0], and Butazolidin [50-33-9]. The effect of these hormones, antiinflammatory drugs, etc., is discussed in relation to the role of thyroid hormones in regulating connective tissue acid mucopolysaccharide content in endocrine ophthalmol. pathol.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 2 (Hormone Pharmacology) Prednisolone Na hemisuccinate (I Na hemisuccinate) [1715-33-9] (25 mg/kg) injected i.v. into rabbits immediately before and at 4 and 8 h after beginning of an endotoxin infusion (20 mg/kg/h for 10 h) decreased lethality of the toxin from 90 to 10% and prolonged survival of dying animals in comparison with untreated endotoxic animals. I prevented the crit. drop in cardiac output and total O2 uptake, prevented the increase in total peripheral resistance, and protected against metabolic acidosis. I did not prevent increases in serum b-glucuronidase [9001-45-0] and b-acetylglucosaminidase [9012-33-3] activities.
