Thus, stirring 360 g Me pentenoate contg. 342 g Me 4-pentenoate [818-57-5] with 70.2 g Ph3P [603-35-0] and 108 mg (Ph3P)3HRhCO [17185-29-4] in 600 mL PhMe with H-CO at 110°/8 bar for 2 h gave a mixt. of Me pentenoates 18.5, Me pentanoate 2.6, Me 4-formylpentanoate 6.2, Me 5-formylpentanoate (I) [6654-36-0] 71.8, Me hydroxyhexanoate 0.5, and high boilers 0.4%. Oxidizing 288 g I with O at 50°/1 bar for 6 h gave 307 g mono-Me adipate [627-91-8].

The effect of the degree of liq. loading on the catalytic performance was investigated for the range 0.05-0.80.There are some commonly used reagents with their cas registry numbers 123-38-6 and 74-85-1 in this article. A stable activity level, which was highly dependent on the type of a-Al2O3, was reached in 24 h on-stream time. The expts. were carried out at relatively large Rh concns. (￡100 mol Rh m-3). For some supports the max. value led to deactivation. A concn. of 50 mol Rh m-3 resulted in better stability. the deactivation was probably caused by the formation of aldol products which leached out the catalyst. .
