The process may be used to increase milk factor in dairy products or may be isolated and used as a food additive. Thus, autoclaved whole milk contg. 2 mM glutaconic acid/L was inoculated with P. 1724-02-3 and 57-88-5 are also in the experiment. fluorescens loitokitok and incubated for 7 days at 30°. After adjusting the mixt. to pH 3.5 and adding 9 vols. MeOH, it was cooled to 5° and 10 vols. Me2CO added. After 12 h the mixt. was filtered and the filtrate reduced to dryness, followed by extn. of the residue with Et2O. The resulting residue was repeatedly extd. with boiling MeOH to give 1 ′ 106 units of milk factor. .
