DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 35 (Synthetic High Polymers) Catalysts for the formation of odor-free water-blown flexible polyurethane foams, both molded and free-rise, including high-resilience and flame-retardant foams, were .beta.-amino carbonyl compds. wherein the carbonyl was present as an amido or carboxylic ester group and the . 18707-60-3 and 140-88-5 are cas registry numbers of chemicals which are used as reagents here.beta.-amino group was present as a dialkylamino or an N-morpholino- or N,N'-piperazino heterocyclic nucleus. Thus, 3-dimethylamino-N,N-dimethylpropionamide (I) [17268-47-2] was prepd. by the reaction of 419 g dimethylamine [124-40-3] and 300 g ethyl acrylate [140-88-5] in the presence of 0.7 g phenothiazine and 0.7 g p-methoxyphenol as inhibitors 20 h at 180-200.degree. and 200-400 psig. Polyurethane foam prepd. with I as catalyst had a very low odor level as compared with foam prepd. with N-ethylmorpholine as catalyst. .

U.S. US 4012445 15 Mar 1977, 23 pp. Division of U.S. 3,954,749. (English). (United States of America). CODEN: USXXAM. CLASS: IC: C07C103-50. NCL: 260561000A. APPLICATION: US 72-309906 27 Nov 1972. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 36 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Section cross-reference(s): 23, 27 .beta.-Aminocarbonyl compds. are prepd. for use as catalysts in the manuf. of flexible or rigid highly resilient polyurethane foams, that are essentially free of the odor assocd. 38872-39-8 is just another one chemical used in this study. with conventional amine catalysts such as N-ethylmorpholine (I). Thus, reaction of 419 g Me2NH [124-40-3] with 300 g Et acrylate [140-88-5] in the presence of 0.7 g phenothiazine and 0.7 g p-methoxyphenol as inhibitors at 180-200.degree./200-400 psig for 20 h gave 95% 3-dimethylamino-N,N-dimethylpropionamide (II) [17268-47-2]. II was used with bis[2-(N,N-dimethylamino)ethyl] ether and triethylenediamine as catalysts to prep. a highly resilient polyurethane foam with lower residual odor than a similar foam in which II was replaced by I, and with a similar overall combination of phys. properties even though the amt. of II in the foam was 1/4 that of I in the control sample. Flame-retardant polyurethane foams were also prepd. using these catalysts. .
