Reactivity of nitroso oxides
Reactivity of nitroso oxides. Oxygen transfer as an electrophilic peroxy radical. Sawaki, Yasuhiko; Ishikawa, Shinji (Fac. Eng., Nagoya Univ., Nagoya 464, Japan). J. Am. Chem. Soc., 109(2), 584-6 (English) 1987.In this article, certain chemicals are used. Some of their cas registry numbers are 105785-77-1 and 1774-36-3 CODEN: JACSAT. ISSN: 0002-7863. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 22 (Physical Organic Chemistry) Reactivity of nitroso oxides in the photooxidn. of Ph azides was examd. by a trapping and tracer study. Hydroxylation of C6H6 and cyclohexane occurred in 15-20% yields. Di-Ph sulfides and sulfoxides were oxidized electrophilically by PhNOO·, with Hammett r values of -0.98 and -0.64, resp. The reactivity order was PhNO > Ph2S > Ph2SO > C6H6, suggesting that nitroso oxides react as electrophilic peroxy radicals. An 18O-tracer study showed that PhNOO· isomerization to PhNO2 via a cyclic peroxide is competitive with O transfer to PhNO. .
