DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) We investigated the intraocular penetration of 0.3% GFLX (gatifloxacin), 0.5% LVFX (levofloxacin), 0.3% OFLX (ofloxacin), and 0.3% NFLX (norfloxacin), fluoroquinolone ophthalmic solns., in albino rabbit eyes. The max. aq. concn. (AQCmax) of the fluoroquinolone were, in descending order; 0.5% LVFX (3.39 mg/mL) >0.3% GFLX (2.30 mg/mL) >0.3% OFLX (1.59 mg/mL) >0.3% NFLX (0.22 mg/mL). In addn., the AQCmax/min. inhibitory concn. (MIC) ratio was 46 (0.3% GFLX), 33.9 (0.5% LVFX) for Staphylococcus aureus 209P. 82419-36-1 and 180200-66-2 which are cas registry numbers of substances are two of reagents here. The AQCmax/MIC of GFLX similarly indicated a high values to Staphylococcus epidermidis IID866, Streptococcus pneumoniae IID552, and Enterococcus faecalis IID682, compared with other antibacterial agents. Judging from these results, 0.3% GFLX ophthalmic soln. is likely to show higher clin. efficacy than the other fluoroquinolone ophthalmic solns. A therapeutic gain can be expected of 0.3% GFLX ophthalmic soln. applications in the future. .
